Absentee Bidding

Absentee Bids of less than £20 will not be executed

If, for any reason, a potential Buyer is unable to attend an auction, a 'free' Absentee Bidding facility is available.

The system is operated fairly and without bias, but it must be stressed that the Directors and staff of Amersham Auction Rooms cannot accept responsibility for any consequences of a missed or failed bid.

This can be initiated by the absentee bidder completing a form provided for the purpose, available at the Auction Rooms and when completed, this should be handed in to the office

Additional information, together with estimated prices, is available to bidders from knowledgeable and helpful Auction Room staff, by telephone, e-mail, prior to placing a bid. When requested by Absentee Bidders, the Auctioneers will attempt to provide a Condition Report on specific items. Whilst every effort will be made to be as accurate as possible, all Condition Reports are provided without responsibility. If a potential bidder is in any doubt whatsoever about an item’s condition, a physical inspection is advised

Absentee Bids by Telephone

Sometimes, prospective Buyers who are unable to attend an Auction may wish to conduct their bidding over the telephone, during the auction.

  • This facility, subject to lines being available, will only be offered when the Auctioneers expect the hammer price to exceed £100.
  • The prospective Buyer must also confirm a willingness to make known their opening bid. This information may be requested when telephone lines are limited, in relation to the number of people requesting their use on a particular lot.
  • Telephone bidding is accepted on a ‘first come, first served basis’ so prospective buyers are encouraged to book lines early and certainly not later than 10am on the day of the Auction.

Subject to other bids or reserves, lots will be purchased on behalf of the bidder at the lowest possible price.
A Buyer's Premium of 20% plus VAT will be levied on the hammer price of each lot.
Unless specific arrangements have been made prior to any auction taking place, purchased goods must be paid for and collected by 11.30am the Saturday after the Auction.
Absentee Bidders Instructions may be cancelled at any time before the auction takes place but cancellation cannot be guaranteed once an Auction has commenced.
During the Auction, bids are executed by a Bidding Clerk on behalf of the Absentee Bidder. The registered maximum bid simply indicates to the Bidding Clerk, when the Absentee Bidder's limit has been reached.
Every effort will be made to contact successful Absentee Bidders on the day of the Auction.
