Can I purchase a catalogue?

The weekly sale catalogue is available to purchase at the auction rooms. As they are only published two days before the auction it is impractical to dispatch these by post.

Do I need a ticket/is there an entrance fee to attend and auction?

There is no charge for attending an auction. You are welcome to come and go as you please

If I am looking for a specific item, will you notify me when something similar comes in for sale?

If it is a routine piece, we suggest you log onto our website each week and view a current catalogue. These are normally available from around lunchtime on Tuesdays. Alternatively, where your requirements are specific and for something more unusual, we have a database for enquiries and you will be alerted by e-mail of anything potentially suitable coming up for sale

What are the Auctioneer's "increments"?

The Auctioneer determines conduct in the room and advances the bidding in "increments". Thus, on most occasions, up to £30, bidding will be advance in £2 and £3 increments, at £5 increments between £30 and £100, at £10 increments to £200, £20 increments to £500

How much should I bid?

Estimates are available on each lot but these are given for guidance only and may well be exceeded. Prospective buyers are therefore encouraged to form their own opinions of worth, before bidding, since the auctioneers recognise the valuation of many chattels is, at best, an inexact science and personal considerations can easily upset the most seemingly competent appraisals

What is an Absentee Bid?

If, for any reason, you are unable to attend an auction, facilities exist for bids to be executed on your behalf. This is a free service and appropriate forms are printed in each catalogue, available on request from the Auction Rooms or this can be down-loaded from the website

How can I pay for my purchases?

Payment can be made in variety of ways, viz. in cash, by cheque, debit or credit card (the latter, subject to a small charge) or bank transfer. In the case of cheques, unless prior arrangements have been made, goods may not be realised until cleared funds have been confirmed

If I purchase an item, will somebody be available to help me load my vehicle?

It is your responsibility to ensure there is someone able to assist you because we do not have the available manpower

Can I bring an item back if it does not work?

All goods are sold subject to the Terms & Conditions of Sale, which specifically exclude liability

May I bring my children to the Auction Rooms?

We would prefer to say "No": but to do so, excludes those who are properly behaved. We have responsibility for other peoples' goods and unruly, irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated from children or adults

I am unfamiliar with the auction process. Can you provide a guide?

We can send you an Information Pack, which will contain a brochure, outlining what we do and how we do it, together with an application form to consign goods for sale. Alternatively, you may e-mail the application form from our website

When may I view a particular auction?

Goods are on view every Tuesday from 2.00pm to 5.00pm, the following day, from 9.30am to 8.00pm and on Thursdays, before the auction, between 9.00am and 10.25am. The auctions commence at 10.30am on Thursdays

How can I ascertain the condition of a lot if I am unable to make an inspection?

The auctioneers will provide Condition Reports; and whilst they use best efforts to be as accurate as possible, these are provided without responsibility and if you are in any doubt whatsoever, a physical inspection is essential

What is the hammer price?

This is the amount at which the Auctioneer concludes the transaction. It is subject to the payment of a Buyer's Premium and VAT on the premium, levied at the prevailing rate

How fast do the Auctioneers sell and is there a break in proceedings?

This will vary according to the nature of the items being sold and the Auctioneer's temperament. As a general guide, the Auctioneers sell at a rate of approximately 140-170 lots per hour and there are no "natural" breaks

Is there a cut-off date/time for the dispatch of Absentee Bidders Instructions?

If posted or delivered by hand, please ensure these arrive before 10.00am on the day of the auction

By when do payments have to be made for purchases?

Payment for purchases can be made immediately after the auction finishes and up to 6.00pm that day or alternatively, the following day between 9.00am and 5.00pm and at the latest, by 11.30am on the Saturday morning

If I purchase an item at auction, can arrangements be made for it to be dispatched?

Where items are small and do not require specialist facilities, we will pack and post purchases, subject to a small handling charge, to include materials in addition to the prescribed mailing charge. We do so on the strict understanding that whilst every effort is made to ensure packing is appropriate, we cannot be held responsible for loss or damage arising from our involvement. In all other instances, we use the specialist services provided by our nominated carriers, Clark's of Amersham; who will organise all that is necessary to dispatch goods to locations throughout the UK and worldwide

I can only come to an auction if I can bring my infant, in a pram/pushchair - will I be allowed to come in?

There is limited space for pushchairs/prams. If a baby or very young child persistently makes a noise, it is disruptive to proceedings and rather than cause us embarrassment we would prefer that the parent or guardian took the initiative and decided to leave

Is there a list of price estimates available?

These are posted in each catalogue and available during viewing, at the auction rooms

What is the Buyer's Premium?

This is an amount payable by every purchaser; levied as a percentage of the hammer price with VAT payable, in addition at the prevailing rate

Buyers who have been unable to remain, may pay by card, over the telephone; or they may return to do so, up until 6.00pm on the day of the auction, between 9.00am and 5.00pm the following day and between 9.00am and 11.30am on the Saturday. Sometimes items are not sold where bidding fails to reach the reserve and on those occasions, the Auctioneers will consider an "aftersale" but this depends upon the specific wishes of the seller
