No items consigned for Auction will ever be sold prior to an Auction.

Potential Buyers at Amersham Auctions bid by name and not by paddle number and should register before the auction begins, providing their name, permanent address and contact telephone number.

New Buyers, or those likely to place an Absentee Bid, may be asked to leave credit or debit card particulars with the Auctioneers. All registration details are strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party without prior consent being given.

To be accepted for a particular auction, formal written bids, whether delivered in person, by post, or by fax, must be received by the Auction Rooms before 10.00am on the day of the auction. E-mailed bidding instructions, made by registering on the web site and using the in-built e-mail facility, must be received before 9.00am on the day of the auction. Any doubts associated with written bids should be cleared by contacting Amersham Auctions well before the auction takes place. Please click for Absentee Bidders' Service.

All e-mailed bids sent to Amersham Auctions will generate :-

The Auctioneer advances the bidding in variable "increments". Usually, bidding will be advanced in £2 and £3 increments up to £30, in £5 increments between £30 and £100, in £10 increments up to £200 and in £20 increments up to £500, thereafter, at the Auctioneer’s discretion

As a general guide, the Auctioneers will sell at a rate of approximately 140 -160 lots per hour with no "natural" breaks. This will however vary according to the nature of the items being sold and the Auctioneer’s temperament.

At the fall of the Auctioneer’s hammer, the deal is done and is a legally binding transaction between the Auction Rooms and the Buyer with all goods being sold subject to the Terms & Conditions of Sale. Reversing the decision to buy is not an option at this point. The hammer price, the amount at which the Auctioneer concludes the transaction, is subject to the payment of a Buyer’s Premium of 15% plus VAT (on the premium only).

On those occasions where bidding fails to reach the reserve, subject to the specific wishes of the Seller, the Auctioneers may consider an "after Auction" offer to buy.

Frequently Asked Questions [FAQs]

How much should I bid?

Estimates are available on each lot but these are given for guidance only and may well be exceeded. Prospective buyers are therefore encouraged to form their own opinions of worth, before bidding, since the auctioneers recognise the valuation of many chattels is, at best, an inexact science and personal considerations can easily upset the most seemingly competent appraisals

How fast do the Auctioneers sell and is there a break in proceedings?

This will vary according to the nature of the items being sold and the Auctioneer's temperament. As a general guide, the Auctioneers sell at a rate of approximately 140-170 lots per hour and there are no "natural" breaks

Do I need to register/obtain a paddle or client number?

Everyone who intends to bid should register, before the auction, providing their name, fixed abode and contact telephone number. We bid by name and not by paddle number. Prospective buyers may be asked to leave credit/debit card particulars with the Auctioneers when placing an Absentee Bid

Can I buy an item before an auction?

No. Nothing is sold prior to an auction

Can I offer to buy items which failed to sell at an auction?

Sometimes items are not sold where bidding fails to reach the reserve and on those occasions, the Auctioneers will consider an "aftersale" but this depends upon the specific wishes of the seller

Can I change my mind and back out of a transaction once the Auctioneer has sold it to me?

At the fall of the hammer, the deal is done and this is a legally binding transaction

If I register my details, will these be given to anyone outside your organisation?

All information held about you is strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party without your prior consent
