The present team of Valuers and Auctioneers is led by Dick Ellis, a third generation of one of the founding families. Dick is ably assisted by Co-Directors, Simon Knowles and Hugo Lemon and as considered appropriate, by a number of associated specialised consultants. All are graduates in their respective fields of specialisation and members of the Antiques and Fine Arts Faculty of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Director and Company Secretary, Jacqui Arbery, is responsible for all the Company's administration and associated financial matters.
Dick is a third generation direct descendant of Harvey Ellis, a founder of the original firm of Pretty & Ellis, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and attached to the Antiques & Fine Art Faculty
An "all rounder" with over forty years experience as a Valuer and Auctioneer, Dick now concentrates his interests on English Furniture and Silver. He regularly takes the rostrum and skillfully combines a spirit of theatre and fun, to ensure that the process of selling is as entertaining as it is effective
Jacqui has a background in banking, computing and administration, and was primarily responsible for the effective, successful management buyout of the Company and it’s reincarnation as Amersham Auction Rooms in 1992.
She remains at the helm of the organisation, driving the business forward, whilst motivating staff with a sensitive blend of commitment and a rare sense of humour.
Hugo’s family has long been involved with the antiques business, an environment in which he was brought up.
He gained a degree in Fine Art & Valuation, before joining Sotheby’s where he specialised in 19th and 20th century fine art. After several years, Hugo rejoined Amersham Auction Rooms, where he first entered the profession as a trainee.
He now specialises in Oriental Carpets and Rugs in addition to his passion for all forms of art and is an accomplished and experienced Auctioneer.
Simon studied Business and Finance before making a career move and subsequently graduating in Fine Art and Valuation.
He has a keen interest in, and a wide knowledge of Ceramics and Glass and an ever growing enthusiasm for 20th century collectables.
Simon also oversees the Company’s commitment to specialist Auctions of Contemporary Design and 20th Century Collectables.
His zest is also reflected in his spirited and popular style of auctioneering.
